not a manic monday

so i worked until 1130 tonight...not a bad night for a monday. we were staffed appropriately and the patients weren't too bad. i'm really tired so i'm not going to write much. just wanted to make a blog entry.

i wish it had been a lazy sunday

last night at work was horrible. we were short a nurse for half of my shift and this new computer charting is taking me forever! i'm very good with computers and computer programs but it just seems like this system is going to take a while to get used to. it takes me a long time to just chart on one patient and when i have six patients to chart on thats over an hour just to chart the initial assessment alone! i don't have that much free time to just sit around and do nothing but chart. okay now that i've ranted about work lets move on to something more productive.

palm sunday...that was always a big day at church for me when i was growing up. my mother was always very active with the youth and i can remember her leading us around the church carrying palm branches and singing. it made me miss being so far away from home because she of course did that again this morning with the children of the church. they had an easter egg hunt last night and i would have loved being there. i don't get to see my nephews and niece often enough around holidays due to being a nurse and living 200 miles from home. i am looking forward to easter next sunday though...perhaps i'll put a basket together for my dog and boyfriend.

today started at 9:30...i had to get up so i could get ready for band practice. we got out of band practice around 2:15 and headed for columbus to meet my sister. i was sad to see her go but relieved all at the same time. i love having my family around but its been a very busy week with her being in town...its nice to go back to things being slower for a little while. but i enjoyed every second of her being here. now that the weather is nice and the kids are almost out of school my family will visit more. i'm glad for that...i love being around them.

i'm almost ready for bed after loads of driving today. i'll post again tomorrow.

early morning.

so i'm laying here trying to figure out why i'm awake so early on a saturday. i didn't fall asleep until late last night and i definitely shouldn't be awake right now. however, since i'm up i might as well blog.

work last night was miserable. we were understaffed by one nurse which always makes for a fun evening. typically when we're short its not always horrible, tonight went against that statement. call lights were constantly going off making it difficult to accomplish anything in a timely manner. i had seven patients...thankfully one of them was discharged home to my liking. so the first hour of my evening was spent discharging this patient home and answering all of his family's questions. right after my discharge left my admission had arrived, great timing right? thankfully i only had six patients the rest of the evening. normally i have no problem with six or seven patients but last night was even more difficult because i had to learn to use the new computer system...sure i had a class on it a month ago...but i thankfully was able to navigate my way through most of it...the admission and discharge were both fun to try and navigate through. so after a busy evening i was charting when i was supposed to be leaving...thankfully i'm a quick typer and i only had to stay over fifteen to twenty minutes.

this is normally my saturday off but someone needed to switch and i agreed...although now i wish i hadn't...not much i can do about it now. my boyfriend and niece are going to a friend's house this evening, i think they'll have fun...i just wish i was joining them.

i'm going to go eat breakfast...

i can't believe it's friday!

so it's friday...the week has gone by so fast. my niece will be headed home in a couple of days and it will just be my boyfriend and i again. its nice to have someone else here for the time being...she adds a bit of excitement because we are trying to entertain her. i believe my bf is taking her to the rock & roll hall of fame tonight, she loves music so she should really enjoy that...i hope so anyways. i unfortunately must work, i haven't been since sunday so i had a nice, long break. i have to start using the new computer system this evening, i'm hoping that it goes smoothly...thankfully if i have any problems i can ask some of the help people that are there to make sure we transition easily. i personally have been looking forward to moving to computer charting because i can type so much faster than i can write, spell check never hurts either!

i'm going to go spend some time with my niece before heading to work. more tomorrow.

snow flurries.

so this is my first blog. i fully intend to write everyday...but I'll just be honest from the beginning and say that its probably not going to work out that way. I enjoy blogging...its a way to get everything out of my head without being judged...or without really caring about what people think.

My niece is in town visiting for Spring Break. She came up Tuesday after my aunt's funeral. I was really saddened by her death this past Friday (March 19, 2010). She'd been sick for so long...I was sad to see her go but I know now that she is without pain or suffering. My prayers are still with her husband, children, and family.

My niece being in town is wonderful. She's always fun to be around. Yesterday we went and had her hair highlighted...it looks really good. I'm glad she likes it. Today we hit up the mall...that girl loves to shop! I've thankfully taught her how to be a bargain shopper. We couldn't afford anything if she shopped the way she does without being a bargain shopper. I introduced her to Plato's Closet...that place is amazing for buying clothes...especially when you're still growing....

We had pizza for dinner from Donato's...I think they have my favorite pizza....Now I'm just sitting here watching tv. I have to work tomorrow but I'll try my best to blog, it would look really bad if I couldn't get a blog in on the second day of having one!
